A Cool Mountain Escape
The misty hills of Cameron Highlands, Malaysia, were a refreshing change from tropical heat, and our vacation rental was a cozy haven. As Marco and Eleni, we sought a unique retreat. Marco, the planner, chose a colonial-style bungalow amid tea plantations, while Eleni, the vibe curator, was ready to photograph the rolling green hills and foggy mornings.
Our Highland Home
Our bungalow, perched on a hill, featured wooden floors, a fireplace, and panoramic windows overlooking strawberry farms. Marco loved its history—built in the 1930s for British planters—while Eleni was charmed by the vintage decor, snapping photos of the floral curtains and antique teacups. A welcome basket of fresh scones and local tea set the tone for a relaxing stay, and we spent our first evening by the fire, sipping fragrant Boh tea.
Living the Highland Life
We woke to cool air and birdsong, a stark contrast to Malaysia’s coastal humidity. Marco mapped a hike to the nearby Mossy Forest, where we wandered through misty trails lined with ferns. Eleni’s camera captured the ethereal scenery, while I noted the area’s unique flora, like pitcher plants. Back at the bungalow, we cooked a simple curry with market-fresh veggies, feeling like locals in our temporary home.
Exploring the Highlands
The Cameron Highlands are a treasure trove. We visited the BOH Tea Plantation, learning about tea-making and sampling aromatic blends. Eleni photographed the emerald tea fields, while Marco geeked out over the factory’s vintage machinery. The Time Tunnel Museum, a quirky spot, offered a glimpse into the region’s colonial past. We also explored a strawberry farm, picking plump berries for a homemade dessert.
Why We Loved It
Our Cameron Highlands rental was a serene escape, blending nature with nostalgia. The bungalow’s charm and the region’s lush beauty made it a perfect retreat for our adventurous souls. It’s ideal for travelers seeking a cool, immersive getaway.
- Tip: Choose a rental with a fireplace for cozy evenings.
