Seaside Sophistication: Kurhaus Hotel and Holland Casino, Scheveningen

A Dutch Coastal Escape
Scheveningen, the seaside gem of The Hague, welcomed us with salty breezes and golden sands. Our stay at the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus was a slice of Dutch elegance. For Marco, the planner, it was a strategic pick for its history and proximity to the Holland Casino Scheveningen. For Eleni, the storyteller, it was the promise of beachside photo ops and casino glamour.
Our Historic Haven
The Kurhaus, a 19th-century icon, dazzled with its grand dome and ornate interiors. Our sea-view room, with its high ceilings and plush bedding, felt like a step back in time. Marco loved the hotel’s past—once a concert venue for the Rolling Stones—while Eleni planned to capture the sunset from our balcony. A welcome tray of stroopwafels and Dutch gin was a sweet touch, sparking a playful debate over the best way to eat the caramel-filled wafers.
Casino Nights
The Holland Casino Scheveningen, just steps away, was a vibrant highlight. Its modern gaming floor offered roulette, blackjack, and slot machines. Eleni’s lucky streak at roulette had us cheering, while I (Marco) got lost in the strategy of poker. The casino’s bar served craft cocktails, and we toasted to our wins under twinkling lights. The lively yet relaxed vibe was perfect for our mix of thrill and chill.
Dining and Exploring
Dinner at the Kurhaus’s Waves restaurant was a treat—Eleni savored pan-fried cod with Hollandaise, while I enjoyed a hearty beef tenderloin, paired with a crisp Dutch beer. The next day, we strolled Scheveningen’s pier, where Eleni photographed the Ferris wheel against the North Sea. Marco navigated us to a beachside café for herring, a Dutch delicacy we bravely tried. A bike ride along the dunes capped our day, blending adventure and relaxation.
Why We Loved It
The Kurhaus and Holland Casino offered a perfect mix of sophistication and fun. Scheveningen’s coastal charm, the hotel’s grandeur, and the casino’s buzz made it a trip to remember. It’s a must for travelers seeking elegance with a seaside twist.
